Desalination methods focus on the technique to exclude ions from seawater. An objective in our experiments is to obtain the information for removal characteristics of ions in gas hydrate based desalination. CO2 hydrate process was conducted with our apparatus, which provides continuously producing and pelletizing gas hydrates by a squeezing operation of a dual cylinder unit. Before and after hydrate process, each cations (Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, B3+) and anions (Cl-, SO42-) were analyzed by Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES) and Ion Chromatography (IC). In the single stage of CO2 hydrate process without any pretreatment, 67-91 % of each cations was removed in the following order: K+ > Na+ Mg2+ Ca2+ > B3+. And 77-84 % of each anions (Cl- SO42-) was removed. We believe that this study allows to understand the property of ions excluded from hydrate phase. We also discussed the implications of this work in seawater desalination.
