¡¡ The 6 th International Conference on the Analysis of Geological and Environmental Materials was convened on September 19, 2006 in Beijing , China . The Conference was co-hosted by China Geological Survey (CGS), Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) and the International Association of Geoanalysts (IAG), organized by the National Research Center for Geoanalysis . This Conference was first held in China , and also was first in Asia . Over 160 participants from 22 countries attended this important event.

¡¡¡¡Dr. Wang Min, Vice Minister of Land and Resources of China; Mr. Huang Zongli, Director General , Department of International Cooperation and Science & Technology, MLR; Mr.Wang Baocai, Deputy Director General , China Geological Survey; Dr. Zhang Hongtao, Deputy Director General , China Geological Survey; Prof. Phil Potts, President of International Association of Geoanalysts; Prof. Xie Xuejing, the Chairman of the Academic Committee, (Academician of CAS); Prof. Michael Wiedenbeck (Germany), Vice President of International Association of Geoanalysts took part in the opening ceremony.

¡¡¡¡Vice Minister Wang Min highlighted the latest development on the analysis of geological and environmental materials of China . Prof. Phil Potts, President of International Association of Geoanalysts reaffirmed the goal of IAG, and appreciated the excellent arrangement for this conference hosted by the CGS.

¡¡¡¡The subject of the Conference focus on the modern analytical technologies for the resources and environmental materials. It includes p lenary lectures, thematic sessions, workshop, poster presentation, IAG general meeting. Before and after the Conference, the laboratories of China Geological Survey in Beijing and in Xi'an , Shaanxi Province are arranged by the organizing committee of the conference.

¡¡¡¡Eight topics for the thematic sessions of the Conference :

¡¡¡¡•  Application of analytical techniques for environmental and geochemical studies

¡¡¡¡•  Microprobe and in situ analytical techniques

¡¡¡¡•  Isotopic geochemistry and geochronology techniques

¡¡¡¡•  Data quality control and Reference Materials

¡¡¡¡•  Role of geoanalysis in geochemical mapping and exploration

¡¡¡¡•  Techniques for on-site analysis and instrumentation

¡¡¡¡•  Sample preparation techniques

¡¡¡¡•  Green laboratory and technology

¡¡¡¡The conference is structured to make the event a useful one from a standpoint of exchange of knowledge and expertise .

¡¡¡¡It provides the opportunity for geoanalysts of the world to share the experience and to discuss the common issues concerned on the development of analytical techniques and methodology in the applications of geological and environmental materials.
