Research on the Share and Application Service of Spatial Information on the Basis of SIG Technique Achieved a lot

By Dong Lina (www.cgs.gov.cn)

China Geological Survey (CGS) hosted acceptance meeting for the research topic on the share and application service of the spatial information of resources and environments. The journalist learnt from this meeting that this topic, a program of the 863 Project that is National High Tech Research and Development Program in the 10 th Five-Year period, got a set of great achievements and obtained more than 10 items of innovations. By doing research on this topic, China Geological Survey (CGS) established Spatial Information Grid (SIG) system of geologic survey preliminarily and completed network system infrastructure construction, and then set up the SIG platform of national geologic survey based on SIG technique and draw up the standards for the share and application service of spatial information in the field of geological survey. Further more, to show as a model, CGS evaluated the mineral resources and ground-water resources successfully with the supports of SIG technique.

SIG is a spatial information infrastructure with the ability of providing service on demands, and it aims at implementing sharing, integration, organizing and the collaboration of enormous distributed spatial information.

It is reported, China started doing the research on SIG and some other relevant techniques during the 10 th Five-Year Period. As a significant development strategy in ^863 Project ̄, this research focuses on how to get and deal with the information in the field of Information Technology (IT).
