Methane hydrates are methane-bearing, ice-like materials that occur in abundance in marine and Arctic sediments and store immense amounts of methane. Huge natural gas hydrate resources exist in the North Slope of Alaska owing to cold surface temperatures. Drilling of U.S.¨s first hydrate well on North Slope is underway. Here we made a detailed review of its occurrence, drilling problems, production technology and inhibition in pipelines and drilling fluids in the North Slope of Alaska.
