Yichang Institute of Geology and Mineral Resources (Central China Center), directly under the China Geological Survey, is mainly responsible for managing the projects of geoscience surveys in Central China, for organizing and conducting the regional, basic geoscience surveys and research, and the investigations and assessments of strategically mineral resources potential, and the resources development and utilization.

　　The Institute mainly specializes in the research of stratigrapgic paleontology, isotopic geochemistry, granite geology and minerals, geohazards prevention, non-metallic mineral development and utilization.
