QingDao institute of Marine Geology (QIMG), under the China Geology Survey, mainly conduces the research of regional marine geology focused on marine petroleum, QIMG also carries out basic and public marine geological investigation and assessment of strategic marine mineral resources and marine environment.

　　QIMG is equipped with advanced instruments for both marine investigaztion and sample testing, such as shallow seismograph, shallow stratigraphic profiler, echo sounder, side scan sonar , proton magnetometer, multi-beam sounding system, global positioning system (GPS) and sampling equipment, stable-isotope mass spectrograph, X-ray diffractometer, atom-absorption spectrum, plasma spectrum laser spectrum, electron spin resonacce (ESR), quadruple a spectrum, high-temperature differential thermometer and uranium-series dating systems.
